Beginning in March 2018, Capital Bikeshare implemented Transport Layer Security protocols (TLS 1.2) in accordance with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS v3.2). As a result users with some out-of-date web browsers may not be able to load interactive parts of the website, including:
- System map
- Join, purchase & registration page
- Login page
When trying to view these pages with an out-of-date browser, you may see error messages saying, "cannot connect to server" or "this site cannot be reached."
It’s very easy to update your web browser. There are a number of third party websites that can guide you through the process, like https://browser-update.org/update.html.
It’s also very easy to check to see whether the browser you’re using has up-to-date security protocols. To check, visit https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/viewMyClient.html and look for the green box with the message, “Your user agent has good protocol support.”
If your browser is up-to-date, and you confirm that it supports TLS 1.2, and you STILL can’t get to the website map, login, and registration pages, please contact Capital Bikeshare customer service, now supported by Lyft.
